I can’t help but chuckle because I don’t know if someone stole the premise from another or if the ideas were honestly independent of each other. I love shows that aim for the younger audience but inadvertently appeal to people my age as well. I preferred Jake Long myself, but maybe it’s because I was a bit older. Jake Long could take a more serious tone and the character seemed more willing to accept his duties (or find ways to complete them) compared to the more easily overwhelmed June. Juniper Lee was brighter and more laid-back, it went for the cheap gag and the predictable plot lines. When looking at the two shows, it’s easy to see that they were made with different audiences in mind. – Their teachers each acknowledge that they will surpass them. – Another villain is a power-hungry rogue (Jake faces the Dark Dragon, and June a former Te Xuan Ze) – It is hinted the sibling may become even more powerful than they are over time. – Jake and June each have a younger sibling of the opposite gender. – In both family lines, powers skipped a generation so their parents are without them. – Both deal with a normal human organization bent on destroying the magical realm (The Huntsmen for Jake and June gets H.A.M.) But’s that about it, right? Right? Can’t be that many other similarties: Let’s sum this up: magical teenage protagonist (with the initials JL), talking dog, grandparent mentor (considered to be the greatest at what they do). Although June lacks any sort of animal form, she is blessed with magical strength and durability that allows her to go toe to toe against giants, wizards, and other whatnot (like Jake) and both are prone to rush headfirst into danger with little regard for strategy. Lee, but the similarities are pretty obvious. I only watched a handful of episodes of Ms. Talking animal sidekick? Check and check.
